A couple of times a day, I hear the sound of freedom.
The Oregon Air National Guard's 173rd Fighter Wing is flying out of Gowen Field (the Idaho Air National Guard) in Boise until later this year while its home field in Klamath Falls undergoes runway improvements.
Years ago, when my nephew was a toddler, they were living out of state while my brother was in the Air Force. We were hanging out around town when an airplane flew overhead. My nephew pointed to the sky and yelled “16, 16”. His father worked on F-16s at the time. It was exciting to see him so full of pride.
Then my sister-in-law, Beci, said, “That’s the sound of freedom.”
While my Mother was helping me in the garden last week (and everyday for the last several weeks), an F-15s flew overhead, reminding me of this story. Three or four planes take off, one after the other. When I’m outside, I look up and thank all military personnel, past present and future, for the freedom that we enjoy each and every day and I thank the Lord for me being born to the Land of the Free!
I will miss these planes when they head back to Oregon but I hope I still remember to look up to the sky and say thank you for our freedom!
Blessings
Christine
