Squigglefly Whale

I promised another fun Squigglefly image drawn by Jackie Matthews and here it is!  orange whale When I saw this cute image I knew it needed to be made into a baby card.  I went with very unconventional colors for this cute image.  The whale is really orange but looks brown in this scan.  It will be so fun for a new baby or 1st birthday card, don’t you think?

My camera is at my sis’ house here in town so I’ll be getting it tomorrow.  Yay!  I like the photos much better than the scans.  I have another migraine today so I’m just creating my way out of it.  I have another card to share but I’m waiting to take a photo instead of a scan.

I’ll be back tomorrow with some more fun!!!

Blessings,

Christine

Fantabulous Umbrellas

Our Fantabulous Cricut challenge this week is appropriate for the middle of April.  Can you guess?  It’s April showers—use rain or water (think a rain hat, umbrella, life preservers, etc.) on your creation as well as at least one Cricut cut.  1-04-12 Where is my Cricut cut, you ask?  Does this give you a hint?  Untitled-1 copy I used Design Studio to create a border kind of like a border punch.  This is the first time I’ve done this so I kept it quite simple.  Plus, I need to get the Cricut Jukebox before I can get to fancy with them.  I have to stick to using just one cartridge for now.  I have been seeing these scallops in all sizes and now I can do them as I wish.

I hope you get a chance to play along with the Fantabulous Cricut challenge.  It is really fun and don’t you think you should be using  your Cricut more?  Go on over to the FCC blog and look at the other amazingly talented design team creations.  I hope you find some time to play along this week!

Blessings,

Christine

Look Mom, No Stamps on a Fantabulous Monday

Using my Cricut, and only my Cricut is a real challenge for me.  I love my stamps and coloring but I wanted to be on the Fantabulous Cricut design team simply for the challenge of it.  I have had this design in my head ever since I bought my first cartridge, Walk in My Garden.

Our challenge is to use the word “Happy” and include some “flowers” along with at least 1 cut using your Cricut.  You can use Design Studio, Gypsy, SCAL or any of the other ways to cut with your Cricut.

happy flowers I know that I’ve preached the wonders of Design Studio before but for you today, I have some photos to show you one of the reasons I love it so much.

prntscrn Here’s a screen shot in Design Studio of the 1st page of my project.  You will notice, the words, the words in shadow, a wheel barrow, 4 rows of assorted flowers and some grass, all from the Walk in My Garden cartridge.  I also have the center to the flowers which I didn’t use on the finished project (2nd from the bottom on the right).

happy flowers mat This photo is of the mat that I used to cut page one.  If you compare it with the illustration above, you will se that I lined up the paper in the color choices I had chosen for each block.

prntscrn2I have also attached a print screen of the 2nd page.  You can’t really see the grass very well but I “welded” the grass border cuts together to make it the width I wanted.  I was already late with my project so I was trying to hurry!  I don’t have a photo of the mat.

It’s so great to see that something I have had in my mind finally came out in paper, glue and rhinestones (colored with Copics)!  It wouldn’t have been possible using my baby Cricut without Design Studio.  There are three things that couldn’t have been done without DS – 1) cut an image under 1” in size, 2) weld images together (grass) and, 3) size an image beyond the original dimensions (back layers of grass).

Thanks for dropping by to see my Fantabulous Cricut challenge.  I know that some of my regular followers have Cricuts so now is the time for you to join in the Fantabulous challenge!!!  Click on the link so you can view all of the lovely DT inspiration and design your own Fantabulous creation.

Christine

Fantabulously Late

For some reason, I cannot remember to post for my Monday projects!  I have already set windows calendar to remind me to schedule a post on Sundays.  That said, it’s a Fantabulous Monday!!!

10-03-21The challenge this week at Fantabulous Cricut is to create an Easter project in pastel colors.  I used Design Studio to weld mirror images of the blackout water can from the Stretch Your Imagination cart to make a card base.  I then cut the regular water can in DP.  Cute card, huh.  Oh, I cut the little birdie of the top.  I think this is one of my favorite techniques using Design Studio.  You can make a card out of any cut using DS.

I tied a little corsage at the top – Isn’t that cute?

I’ll make this quick because I just got up.  I know, I know – Why so late?  Well, I didn’t go to sleep until 4:00 am.

Talk to you later!!!

Blessings,

Christine

Two for Tea at Just Buggin’

As they say, better late than never.  Does that work even if your REALLY late?

23 heart teapot I made this Valentine card for this week’s challenge at Just Buggin’ which is “love ya’.”  Just don’t forget that you need to include at least one cut from your Cricut.  Every cut you see is from the George cartridge.  I used Design Studio to get the dimensions that I wanted.  Of course the pot’s belly and the lid are hearts, the base is a triangle, the handle is a D and the spout is a J.  I made one like this last year and hand drew and cut the handle and spout.  This time, I wanted to try to use my Cricut for everything.

If you'd like to play along, go to the Just Buggin’ challenge blog to get some inspiration, make something and then link it up on the JB blog!

I added some Basic Grey pearl swirls and regular pearls colored with a Copic, as well as the embossed sentiment from Hero Arts!

I’ll be back with something else I’ve been working on today!!!

Blessings,

Christine

Inspiring Daisies – Just Buggin’ Challenge #18

It’s Tuesday so it’s time for my turn on the Just Buggin’ Challenge blog. Our challenge this week is “In the Shadows” and this is what I made for you this week!

18 inspirational daisies

I used cardstock from one of the Bazzil Monochromatic packs. I love those because it takes the guess work out of if it matches or not.

The sentiment (inspire) and the frame, with shadow, are cut with the Home Decor cart. The little flourish flowers in the corners are from the storybook cart. Using, Design Studio, I was looking for something to go in the corners of this card and found these daisies that are just like the little daisies in the corner. That’s my Just Buggin’ hint for this week. Don’t use just one cartridge per project. These cuts are from two different cartridges but go perfectly together.

Be sure to use the shadow or blackout feature with your die cut.

Now, I have a non-Cricut hint for you! Do you have a huge collection of colored pearls and gems? You can color white pearls and clear rhinestones to match your project using Copics or permanent non-water based (Sharpie or Bic) markers!

If you’d like to join in on the Just Buggin’ challenge, you have until tonight to have your project posted the the blog.

Blessings,

Christine

Bee Crafty Ornament

I wasn’t feeling well last night so I went to bed early before I got a chance to post my Bee Crafty project. Our challenge this week is Christmas Extras. Make a gift, bag, tag, wrap, decoration, etc, but not a card. I made an ornament using the cute little wish fairies.

snowflake ornament boyI used shaker card pouches from Impression Obsession and put the little wish fairies in the middle to make a snow globe kind of ornament. I added some sugary glitter and beads to the pouches. Tip: Put the lid on your glitter immediately or you might spill the remainder of the bottle on your carpet!

snowflake ornament girl The poor little girl fairy got a bead stuck on her head and I can’t get it loose.

I colored the fairies with my Copics and added a snowflake cut with the Joys of the Season Cricut cartridge.

If you would like to play along with the Bee Crafty challenge, follow the link to see all of the other ladies beautiful projects and then make one of your own. You just need to follow the theme and use a digi image on your project.

Poinsettia Bugs

100_4352 I finally got a chance to join in with the new Cricut challenge blog, Just Buggin’. The challenge this week is to use a card cut from any cartridge. I chose the Joys of the Season Poinsettia cut. This was a very simple but yet elegant card. I also cut the sentiment from the same cartridge. I chalked everything and glued the red poinsettia on the card. (Chalk is a Cricut girls best friend!) I then glued gold seed beads to the center and added some red jewels to the corners.

I think I’ll make a set of these to give to a charity event to raise money for the transplant support group in Utah.

The Winter Wonderland challenge is open this week. I’m pretty sure this foots the bill!!!

I’ll have my Flutterby Wednesday card up first thing in the morning and another surprise challenge for ya!

Christine

Michael’s Sale on Cricut Carts

Just wanted to let anyone who doesn’t know that Michael’s has all their Cricut cartridges on sale for $40.00.  Even the new ones that just came out – Lyrical Letters, Life’s a Beach, United We Stand, etc.

Also, about my doctor appointment, he increased my dose of one of my meds and will continue to increase it until I’m taking 12 times more than I take now (if I can tolerate that much).  If that doesn’t work, he’ll try something else.  He said that this is the best bet because anything else would have more side affects or interfere with my other meds.

He also gave me a prescription for pain meds but the transplant team doesn’t want me to take it.  They are going to suggest an alternative.

That’s it for tonight!

Blessings,

Christine

My Last Sugary Sweetness

Well, not really my last; but my last as guest dt. I’m sure I’ll continue to use their images often. The challenge this week at Modern Sugar Boulevard is to make a shaped card. I made an octagon shaped card using Welcome Home from the Life's Simple Pleasures collection.

img005I made this card a couple of weeks ago so I’m not sure what the DP is now. I colored the image with water color paints and added some flat back pearls to finish it off. Do you see the little birdie at the front of the scene. I colored him like a robin red breast. You can’t tell very well in the picture. I had to scan it because my camera battery was dead and I couldn’t find the charger!

I cut the card out using the George cart with Cricut Design Studio. Using Design Studio you can “weld” images together which works perfect for making shaped cards. I haven’t purchased Design Studio yet. You can download a free trial copy at the Cricut website but you can only cut with the original cartridge that came with your machine. Since I have a baby Cricut, I can only use the George cartridge.

That’s about it for now. I have another card almost finished so I’ll be back in a few minutes with it!

Blessings,

Christine

Sugary Camper

I have another card for you from the Modern Sugar Boulevard new release which you can now purchase at their store website.

growing up_optThis is the Growing Up image from MSB. Isn’t he the cutest guy you ever saw.

I colored him with water colors and used (oh, I hate it when I have to get up and see) the Debbie Mumm Travel matt stack and the little buttons I got at Walmart. I cut the camper and cirle with the Cricut Going Places cart.

The sentiment is computer generated using a font I got at Fonts for Peas. If it’s peas she wants for her fonts she can have all of mine. Just hand me your plate and I’ll scrape them off!!! Yuck! Anyway she has some very cute handwritten fonts that you can download and use for free!

That’s about it! I have one more post and then I hit the shower and get out of here. I’ve errands to run all day.

Blessings,

Christine

Doodlecharm Calendar

THIS IS MY SIXTH AND FINAL POST OF THE DAY. Be sure to scroll down to see EVERYTHING ELSE!

I know this is a long post but stay tuned; I have a great hint about applying die cut letters to your projects!!!

At Chirper Challenge, on the weeks between challenges, we are highlighting specific cartridges. This week we are doing the Doodlebug Cartridge.

100_3314a

My project took on many convulsions before I finally came up with this. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this first!!!

100B3320 This calendar is part of a message center that I have in my kitchen. I think I’m going to move it to my craft room though. I think it will be a great place to put some inspiration.

The top is a piece of SEI cardstock with a piece of metal behind it; the middle is a white board with metal behind it and, of course, the bottom is a calendar. It is a blank calendar made of acetate. I also have the same SEI cardstock behind the calendar (with metal behind it).

I’ve had this for about a year and really hadn’t used it very much. When I decided to do this project, it had a hand scrawled “April” on it with “Happy Spring” written on the white board. I’m pretty sure that I' will now keep it updated since it’s so pretty! One of my Modern Sugar Boulevard sneaky peeks is the September header for this calendar. I’m sure there will be some Halloween and Fall challenges out there so I can make the October and November header.

Anyway, about my project. I cut the popsicle out with beige cardstock (like a popsicle stick) using the “ppscl” cut at 5-1/2”. I only have a baby Cricut so that’s as big as I could make it. Then I cut the “ppscl2” cut in pink cardstock. I didn’t think it looked much like a popsicle to me so I applied Versa Mark ink on the whole thing and embossed it with iridescent powder and stuck it onto the base. That’s when this whole thing started coming together.

100_3299 I looked through the Doodlecharms booklet and chose several other images to cut for magnets: a sun, 3 flowers, a sucker (from the Christmas candy), a heart, a lady bug, a slice of watermelon and an ice cream cone. I thought that would probably be enough to mark special days for now. Everything was sprayed with Glimmer Mist or Glitz Spritz (two different brands of basically the same thing) to make it shine. I highlighted the sucker with a white gel pen and added Stickles to the heart. I also put a little heart pearl in the center of the heart after this photo was taken. That’s enough magnets for now but I’ll definitely be needing some more.

100_3304

You know how just about everybody and their dog gives you magnets? I keep them all and hang them inside of my vintage 50s white metal pantry. Both doors are covered with magnets. Most of them from the many phonebooks that land on my doorstep.100_3294

I cut one of the magnets into pieces and used the red really sticky tape 100_3296(I don’t know the manufacturer) to apply pieces of the magnets to the die cuts. 100_3313I cut “Summertime” and “August” out using the Lyrical Letters cart.

100_3300

Now, I have a little trick that I came up with all by myself. Somehow I didn’t get a picture of the first step but you can see what I mean by the photo from the second step.

I place a piece of purple low tack painters tape (I got at Wal-Mart) on my workspace. I tape each end down with another little piece of tape. Then I line all the letters up on the piece of tape, backward and upside down from what I want them to appear on the finished project. I then apply adhesive on to each letter using a glue pen. When the glue dries it remains tacky and becomes temporary. Then I can pick up the tape with the letters attached and make sure that they are where I want them to be.

100_3301 After I have everything the way I want it, I apply glue a couple of letters at a time and apply them to the project. If you do too many letters at a time, the glue will dry before you get them on the project.

Does that make any since at all? It sounds very time consuming but it really isn’t. It really helps to take the time to make sure your project looks more professional.100_3309

With the “August,” I applied it while the glue was temporary. That way, if I choose, I can use it for another summer month!

100_3313

Here’s a close up of the finished project. Like I said, I’ve had this board for a long time and it feels good now that its all decorated and pretty!

Well, I guess that’s enough! Quite a long winded post, huh.

By the way, it is still very HOT in my neck of the woods. It was 104 today and its supposed to “cool down” to the upper 90s. Uhgggg! I need to go to the store but I’m waiting until later so it might be cooler. Last time I did that it was still 98. At least by the time the sun is going down and it feels cooler!

Oh, I almost forgot. Here’s my Chloe while I was messing with my camera while loading these pictures.

100_3411 I cut all her hair off a couple of weeks ago. Ya, I did it all by myself. You can tell because it’s so uneven!!! I don’t have the heart to pull those scissors out in front of her again! She doesn’t like it but she’s a good girl and puts up with me.

Blessings,

Christine

Sugar Hippie Chic

THIS IS MY THIRD POST OF THE DAY. Be sure to scroll down to see my Fluttery By Wednesday card.

I’m having a mini giveaway, check it out here.

This post was edited because I found the link to the box tutorial on the Scor Pal site!

I think this is going to be Modern Sugar Boulevard Day. I just noticed that the MSB blog has posted one of my GDT projects. Now I get to show it off to all of you.

hippi chic_optI have wanted this image since I first saw it on MSB. This girl is definitely my inner hippie. Only a few years ago, I drove a Volkswagen bus with HIPPIVAN on the license plates. I wanted FLWRPR but it was taken. I wish I still had it. It was great for camping. When we were camping, everyone called it “The Condo.” Sooooo much fun!

Everything about this box was fun, fun, fun. Of course, I used Modern Sugar Boulevard’s Precious Hippie Chic and I water colored her in my fav colors. I used to own some jeans like these in the 70s.

I got the instructions for the box on the Scor-Pal website. I downloaded the instructions so I can send them to anyone who would like them. I made the bottom part of the box from pink cardstock and the top is made from some tie die looking cardstock from my stash. I think the dp is DCWV but I can’t remember which stack. I cut the flower with the flower2 image from the Cricut Doodlebug cart. I added a Basic Grey button in the middle and finished off with some tiny buttons I got at Wal-Mart.

The little pom-pom fringe is by MulitCraft Imports that I got at Craft Warehouse. I’ve had it for awhile but now that I’ve used it, I NEED more!!! I’ll be headed over there tomorrow to get some more in every color. I hope they haven’t sold out of it yet!!!

iceberg logo

Craft Warehouse is on the other side of town but I don’t mind heading over there because that’s the perfect excuse to go to Iceberg.

iceberg shakes

They have awesome food. I always order a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a raspberry chocolate shake. Mmmmmmm! Are you jealous?

Chirping Flutterby Purse

Can you believe that I was able to combine two DT projects into one? Well I did! This little purse is for Flutterby Wednesday and for the Chirper Challenge.

butterfly purse

The Chirper Challenge this week is to make something that contains movement using your Cricut. 100_3242

The Flutterby Wednesday challenge is a color challenge, pink and brown, along with a butterfly or fairy.

I used the purse cut from the Bags, Tags, Boxes and More cartridge and the butterfly cut from the Storybook cartridge. The little purse has magnets on it to hold it closed. The dp is from the DCWV Old World stack. I got the trim in JoAnn’s fabric department. It was VERY expensive but it was so perfect for this paper! I used the beads and a sequin from the length I cut for the handle to adorn the butterfly. Isn’t she beautiful! I should have taken the photo in front of the butterfly bush instead of the rose bush, huh? She probably would have been happier there. One of my lucky blogger friends is going to receive this cute little purse full of buttons.

If you would like to play along with the Flutterby Wednesday challenge, you can go check out all of the other lovely DT blogs by clicking on their links on the right sidebar and then go to Danni’s Dreams to link up your card.

If you would like to participate in the Chirper Challenge, you can go to the challenge blog and see all of the DT projects before you get started!

I hope you decide to participate in at least one of the challenges. We have a lot of fun there!

I’ve gotten all my DT work done for this week so I think I’m just going to make something for myself. Well, not really FOR myself but something totally of my choosing. It’s been a long time since I was able to do that. I’m going to look through the challenges and see what I can find.

Blessings,

Christine

Chirping Watermelon

*** 2nd post for today, please scroll down for FBW ***

shabby watermelonWhat a great challenge this time at Chirper Challenge. It is to use brown, zig zag and brads. I went for the Shabby Chic look this time. I really love being on design teams because it really brings out the creativity. Sometimes I even dream about what my cards are going to look like. This was the case with the last two Chirper Challenges. I knew that I wanted to use a watermelon, this brown fringe and some rick rack. I didn’t actually dream about this card but it came to me as I was trying to go to sleep (I did dream last time’s card).

The watermelon cut is from the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge. All of the DP (and, if you look closely there is a LOT of designs) is from a K&Co stack. I distressed it ALL (and their were a lot of edges) with the edge of a scissor and a craft knife. It was very time consuming. I NEED to get a Ranger edge distresser but I can’t find one in any of the stores. Look closely and you’ll see some off white lace under the pom-pom trim (which was a RAC) and then the rick rack. I made a lollipop flower with a brad holding it together. However, when I got it all put together, I didn’t like the brad so I added a pom-pom from the fringe to it. I hope that it still meets the challenge, but there is a brad under there. Trust me (shifty eyes)!!!

Now, head on over to the Chirper Challenge and check out all of the other DTs projects and play along! It’s fun!!!

Blessings,

Christine

Hello Flutterby!

Once again, it’s Wednesday so that means it’s Flutterby Wednesday! Wow, this week past by quickly. I thought I was giving myself plenty of time by doing my artsy room move on Friday in order to be able to get DT cards done by Wednesday. Phew, I almost didn’t make it!!! But it’s done and I feel like I have really accomplished a lot this week!

09-7-1 FBWWhen I saw this cut on the new Lyrical Letters Cricut cartridge, I new I had to use it for FBW. Isn’t it pretty? That cartridge has a lot of sentiments on it. I need to keep it in mind when making cards. Actually, one of these days I’m going to make a list of all the sentiments on the Cricut cartridges that I own. Then I can see at a glance if one will work for a particular card.

Sorry, but the pic didn’t turn out very well. The “hello” is a little washed out. However, I do wish I would have made it a little darker anyway.

The DP is a reversible sheet from K&Co. I used a border MS punch and added a few little pearlies. I learned a lesson with this card. When cutting images with the Cricut that are a little intricate, don’t use white core paper (hint-hint). Thankfully, I had a Sharpie that was close to this color to touch up the white marks that were left on the edges.

If you want to play along, this weeks challenge is open. All you need to do is include a butterfly or fairy on your creation. Go over to each of the DT member’s blogs (links on my sidebar) and to Dani’s blog and see the beautiful examples for inspiration; make your creation and go back to Dani’s blog to put a link to your card in Mr. Linky.

Oops, I almost forgot. I used the sketch from Card Positioning Systems.

Blessings,

Christine

Distressed Lady Bug -- Chirper Challenge

I’ve been so busy getting the pre-wedding stuff done that I forgot to get my Chirper Challenge card up. So, now here we go!

The challenge this time was a very difficult one for me. It is to use no patterned paper with black as the background with bright colors and stitching or doodling in black or white using this sketch.

6-10 chirper challenge sketch w black and brights with doodling in black or whiteI definitely wouldn’t be doing a scrapbook page. The dark colors were way to much of a challenge there. I actually dreamt about what I was going to do it was on my mind so much. I thought I would do a lady bug cad with the Black Magic paper from Core’dinations.

chirper lady bug

I used the ladybug cut from the Walk in my Garden cartridge. (After I finished the card, I realized there was a cuter lady bug on the Doodlebugs cartridge that I wish I would have used.) The letters are the standard cut from Lyrical Letters.

The great thing about Black Magic paper is that it is colored on one side and has a coating of black on the other side of the paper. I demonstrated three ways of using it on this card. First of all, I drew around the lady bug with a white pencil, removed her and then sanded around the white pencil marks. This takes a little more than I thought it would. I used a nail block but I think I needed one with a little more grit.

100_3006 close up The second and third techniques are on the flower. I crinkled the paper and then sanded the crinkles. Then I tore out the individual circles and stuck them together with a brad. When you tear the paper it leaves a pink border around the black.

I also distressed just about everything. I sanded the sides of the cardstock. I used black chalk on all the pink paper except the letters and put a little ink on the brad. I doodle stitched around the lady bug and her dots and I put some dots on the letters.

I gave the lady bug wiggly eyes and I mounted the whole thing onto dark grey cardstock.

The Black Magic card stock was hard to find. I had heard about it before but I hadn’t seen it in any of my LLSs. I had some errands to run including a stop at Joanns so I drove around one day hitting some stores with no luck of finding it. I did get the number of a store in a town about an hour away that probably had it. At my last stop, Joanns where I knew they didn’t have it, I was looking through the DP as I always do and, guess what? They have it now. I bought two sheets and only used 1/2 sheet to make this card. Now I have more to play with.

Sorry once again that I didn’t get this posted. I could have done it last night but it just slipped my mind.

If you have a Cricut and what to play along, go to the Chirper Challenge blog to read about the challenge and look at all the lovely layouts and cards the other Chriper’s made.

Christine

Great Friends

Great Friends

I found a new digital stamp company, Digiments and they are having a challenge contest.  Go to their blog and you can pick up this sentiment for free and make it into a card.  You can win their entire release next month.

Pretty easy card and not much to say about it.  The DP is K & Co and the ribbon and flower are from my stash.  I cut the frame out with the Cricut Storybook cartridge.

Polka Dot Ice Cream

The challenge at Stamp Something is to “case” one of Cindy’s cards and make it your own. I chose Cindy’s card from May 9, 2008.

CindyfirstsThis is my take on Cindy’s card. It’s very similar but with my spin. I love pink and brown together.

Polka Dot Ice Cream

I cut the ice cream cone out using the Cricut Doodlecharms cartridge. I used foam tape to raise the ice cream and the sentiment. The scallop edge is a Martha Stewart punch.

Colour Create's challenge is pink, brown and red so I added a little deep red to Cindy’s card. After I finished the card I realized that the Card-a-Licious challenge was to use pink, brown and scallops.

As you can see, I’ve been busy today making cards. I guess I better take a little break tomorrow and get some other things done but I love creating cards!!!

I’m loving the Windows Live Writer. If you haven’t used it, you should give it a try. It is so much easier to compose a post and you don’t have the trouble with adding photos, spacing problems and such. It’s much easier to add hyperlinks too. It has a lot of other features that I haven’t needed yet. Go check it out here!

Christine

Hope

When I saw the sketch at Inspirational Card Sketches, this is what came to mind. I had received an order of flowers and other embellies the day before and I knew I wanted to do this sketch with my new flower with torn and embossed paper. And it turned out just how I wanted. The next day the Daring Cardmakers posted their challenge which was large embellies. I think this flower fits the bill.

I used Cuttlebug dies for the background and the background and circle. I used Fiskars embossing plates in my Cuttlebug for the torn strips. The sentiment is a cut from the Cricut Calligraphy cartridge.

If you haven't entered for my giveaway, you still have time. Click on the Martha Stewart book above and it will take you to the candy with a challenge post!!!

Blessings,
