Bling on the Holidays

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! My favorite time of year. Tim Holtz posted his first of the 12 tags of Christmas a few minutes ago and now it’s time for me to post this weeks card and go to bed so I can get up in the morning and make my card!

I LOVE Shawne’s Lou-Lou the flamingo character so had to color this one up. She’s such a flamboyant flamingo!!!  I used Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly paper, some KaiserCraft pearls that I colored with Copics and added some sparkle using my clear Spica pen, Stickles and some sugary glitter.

We’re taking it kind of easy this month so the release is kind of small.  We will have another release next week and then off until after the holidays.  What will I be doing you ask?  Tim’s 12 Tags of Christmas!!!

Hope

I have two cards to share with you from this weeks release.

First of all, we have the free Breast Cancer Awareness image.  I really liked this one and had to create with it.  There is actually a heart on the digi stamp that is underneath the butterfly that I added.  The paper has butterflies on it so I put the butterfly on there and then I covered all the butterflies with the design of the card.  Oh well!!!

All you have to do to receive this Awareness image is promise that you do your self exam each month.  It’s important.

Second, I just thought this Vertie was so cute that I had to make something with her.  I don’t often do cute.  This card is so much better in real life.  Vertie is green—all the colors seem brighter for some reason.  Tried to fix it in PSE but it just made it worse.

Now on to this weeks release!!!

The Hotspot Challenge

We have exciting news to share with you!  Studio 313 and McMahon Five Designs have joined forces and have a monthly challenge called  "The Hotspot Challenge".  The First of every month will be a new Hot Challenge based on the Latest Hottest Trends!

02 a bird sings
For February our theme is Natural Elements.  For my card I used some of McMahon Five Designs Real Wood Paper and Shawne’s Studio 313 Bird on a Frail Branch image.  It’s such a beautiful sentiment.  Also, I went outside and cut a branch off of my sage plant for the birdie to sit on.

Go ahead and find natural elements to add to your card this month!  Pull out some of the items you haven't used in a while or haven't even tried yet!  We all have hemp cord, raffia, wooden buttons, cotton ribbon and how about really changing it up and using Real Wood Paper?  There are hundreds of ideas for it's use in the Idea Gallery!  Below is an Inspirational Photo to get your creative minds going!

Now, it wouldn't be a challenge if there wasn't a prize, right?  RIGHT!  Using our Natural Elements Theme we created a Prize Package filled with Natural Elements!

Prize package includes:

1 sheet of Birds Eye Maple Real Wood Paper
1 sheet of Cherry Real Wood Paper
1 sheet of Maple Real Wood Paper
1 sheet of Walnut Real Wood Paper
1 package Kaisercraft Wood Flourishes Vines
1 assorted package of Real Wood Paper Leaf Die Cuts
15 yards of Hemp Cord
1 foot of 100% Cotton Twill Tape
1 bundle of Raffia
1 Wicker Basket Full of Fibers – White and Multi
1 Wood Trinket Box for Altering
1 7” strand of Freshwater Pearls
2 Vintaj Natural Brass Filigree Butterflies
1 package of 10 Natural Pressed Flowers
4 Mulberry Paper Roses

So, let’s all go create some natural projects using images from Studio 313 or McMahon Five Designs.  That’s one great prize!!!

Blessings,

Christine

Wings that Sing

Ever since I went to Brave Girls camp, I’ve had a spot in my heart for birds, much like how I love butterflies.  There is a lot of symbolism in birds and this sentiment is just one of the things I love about birds, especially song birds.sings with wings In case you can’t see it, it says “Be as a bird perched on a frail branch the she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, know she has wings.” – Victor Hugo

This is another of the Studio 313 images by Shawne that were released a couple of weeks ago. With everything else that’s been released at McMahon Five Designs and with my trip to Utah, I haven’t been able to make a card with it.  This one will be showing up again and again, I love it that much!  It’s such a good sentiment.

I used the Prima Fairy Flora paper (love this stuff) and some Zva crystals from the store!  You need to go check out all the things that Sue has in the store.  She has a ton of stuff on sale as well!!!

I mentioned that M5D is sponsoring the Sketches by Carly challenge.  What I didn’t realize at the time is that Carly is my M5D dt sister Kristine’s 12 year old daughter!!!  She draws up the sketches and her mother put’s them on the computer for her.  There aren’t very many entries yet so go check it out.  And I’ll give you a little hint.  Check out the M5D blog for a little surprise.

That’s it for today!  I hope your having a great week.  It’s cold, rainy and windy here.  That’s fall weather for sure but I hope it doesn’t freeze out the Boise State game tonight.  Have a great week!!!

Blessings,

Christine

That’s it for today!  See you Monday (or maybe even Sunday, you never know)!!!

Oak Tree in Fall

First off, I have to apologize.  For some reason, I just haven’t felt like blogging.  I should have had this posted on Tuesday; it was ready.  But now, I’m here posting on Saturday.  Sorry to my M5D team.

autumn scene I couldn’t get a very good photo without my own setup.  This photo has the image very washed out while the embellishments are all perfect.  Oh well.  The image is the beautiful Oak Tree in Fall from Studio 313.  (All the Studio 313 images come in either jpg or png.)  I wish you could see it for all of it’s glory.

The paper is from the Basic Grey Kioshi pad.  What, you say?  I altered it with a bit of Distress Ink to darken it for the fall theme.  I used one of the beautiful Prima Swallowtail Butterfly Olivia from the McMahon Five Designs store.  The only embellishments I brought with me to Utah were the items from M5D so I had to get creative with this card.

After I dropped my sisters and niece off at the airport on Saturday, I stopped by the lss and got some flowers and buttons.  I chose the larger flower in green so that it would look like leaves.  When I was out in the backyard with Chloe on Sunday I noticed this viney looking thing growing on the fence that had ALL of the autumn colors so I picked some and brought it inside.  I heard that you can preserve flowers using Mod Podge—one of my favorite things.  So, I attached some of those on the card as well.

That’s about it.  Everybody will be home tomorrow and I’m glad.  Boredom has set in!!!  You want to know how much?  Yesterday, I painted a pumpkin pink!!!  Yes I did.  I took one of those craft foam pumpkins and painted it pink.  I have what I hope is a great idea for a home decor piece.  I won’t be able finish it until I get home so for now, I have a pink pumpkin.  It looks pretty strange.

Last night I was talking to Rose and I told her I’ve been spending time in the craft room but then had to  correct myself and say the kitchen.  I’ve used it a lot more for crafting than cooking. *giggle*  Sad but true!!!

I’m not sure what we have in store for the first of the week.  On Wednesday, I will have tests and Thursday, more tests, leading up to the doc appt where they will tell me everything is GREAT!!!  A long couple of days and Thursday starts with a heart cath so when the meds wear off at about 6:00 pm, I’m not a happy camper!  I want to be home and in the recliner!!!  But by Saturday, I’ll probably feel great!  I better because I plan to spend that day with my neice before I go home on Sunday or Monday.

I hope all of you have a great week!!!

Blessings,

Christine

More from Studio 313

No clever title today.  There just wasn’t one coming to me!!!  But I have to say, Shawne is clever with these fun images from Studio 313.  I have a few things to share today.

I love celebrating all the holidays of fall.  I’m not much of a scary Halloween gal but I do love the cute side.

group shotAnd Shawne’s Halloween images are soooo cute!!!!

boo First up, I made a little plaque to hang.  I colored the wooden plaque with Creative Inspirations paint.  I colored the sweet monster and ghosts with Copics then painted them with two coats of Mod Podge which makes the paper flexible and tear resistant.  After the Mod Podge was dry, I molded them into puffy shapes (they don’t show up well in the photo) and applied them and the “Boo!” onto the plaque to which I had already attached a border piece of Debbie Mumm paper.  (All of the projects use Debbie Mumm paper.)  I added some fun buttons—see the pumpkin I used for the dot on the exclamation point.  I strung and wound some wire around beads and I will be able to hang it from wire.

spooktacular Next up is a card made with Shawne’s “You’re Spook-tacular” image.  I used the my fun MS drippy border punch.  The little ghost is another fun button!!!

trick or treat Now, the cute little Molly with her sweet dog!  Isn’t she adorable in her little pumpkin costume!!!  Love it!!!  Even  more Halloween buttons!!!  I got these at Hobby Lobby a few years ago!!!

That’s it for tonight.  I’ll be making another card with the last Studio 313 image that I brought with me.  Sue sent me some more images Saturday morning but I don’t have a way to print them here.  I really want to make something with the cutie-patootie Fabulous and Feathered Lou!  This is the colored version.  It comes when you buy the digi as well as some fun sentiments.

Have you ever read the Stephanie Plum mystery novels by Janet Evanovich?  Doesn’t this image remind you of the lovely Lula in her books?  Cute and sassy!!!  I can’t wait to get my Copics on her!!!

Thanks for stopping buy.  Don’t forget about my comment to win giveaway!!!  I love to hear from you!!!

Blessings,

Christine
