Alicia’s Birthday Card

Alicia's Birthday Card I made this card for my nieces birthday and couldn’t post it until I gave it to her.

I used the sketch from Stamp with Fun and the challenge at Spoon Full of Sugar is to use lace. The stamp is I Brake for Stamps “Femme Fleur” and I used watercolor paints on her. The DP is from the DCWV Luxury stack.

I’ll be right back to post my chirper DT card.

Christine

Are You Ready for Some Football

That’s American football for my foreign peeps.  You had to know that when I posted about going to my nieces football game, I’d have pictures to share.

We got to the game a little late and sat down right next to the turf by the blue and orange football team thinking they were the “Boise Sixes” (since Boise State wears blue and orange).  Then we proceeded to guess which of the women was my niece since they all had helmets on.  We had decided on number 22 but we weren’t quite sure.  The play went down to the other end of the field and the other team made a touchdown. :- (

Everyone came off the field for half time and #22 was not Beth, nor anyone else on the team.  We thought maybe Beth didn’t show up (was sick or something).  I tapped on one of the players on her shoulder (she couldn’t feel her shoulder with the big pads) and asked her if Beth was here.  She was on the other team!!!

100_2800

So we moved our chairs down to the other end of the field and found Beth.  She is the one in the middle facing us.

After the chat with the coaches she came over to talk to us.  She asked us if we saw her touchdown.  Well we did but we didn’t know it was her!!!

100_2803

My brother and is wife were their too.

100_2810

They started the game back up and my niece made a great interception right in front of us.  Beth is #88 on the right.

100_2813

But this is what I got when I tried to take action shots!!!

100_2815

Here’s our sweet Beth #88 looking tough waiting for the play to start.  (She doesn’t have blue teeth – it’s just her mouth guard.)  She played tight end.  At the scrimmage line she was defending a gal about 6’2” and doing a great job.  That gal never even got close to the quarterback.

100_2823_01

Toward the end of the game, the  gals on the bench started cheering for the other team.  That was very gracious of them since I saw four touchdowns by the Boise Sixes and none by the other team.  When the game ended and Beth came back over, she didn’t know what the score was but said they made five or six touchdowns and the other team made one.  To give the other team credit, the original team the Sixes were supposed to play couldn’t make it so this team filled in at the last minute.  They only had seven players for a six player team so, with only one substitute, the gals had to play most of the game.  They did a great job under those circumstances.

100_2799

I’m leaving you with one last picture to prove that their truly is blue turf on the Boise State field.

My other niece, Alicia. and her fiancĂ© showed up as the game was just ending.  They had been taking their engagement photos.  The “we” have been talking about was my sister, Alice, Alicia’s mother.  We all went out for milkshakes at Iceberg after the game.  What a great evening!!!

For those who don’t live in Boise or Utah, Iceberg is a great old style drive in.  They make delicious, old fashioned, humongous shakes.  I always order the mini.  They make it in a, what I would consider, medium glass and it is so huge they put that glass into a 32 oz glass and it still goes over the top. Mmmmm!  I always order raspberry with hot fudge.  If you ever pass one, don’t pass it.  Go in.  At least order a milkshake and fries and then dip the fries into the milkshake. Yummmmmy!

Christine

Pink Saturday

If it’s Saturday it must be Pink Saturday!!!  I’ve mentioned before that I have a 50s kitchen.  Most things I have are vintage with a few repos to fill the gaps.  I would love to have a pink or turquoise stove and refrigerator.  Wouldn’t that be great!  Well, on to my pink!

Today, I’m sharing with you my vintage pink “C” canister set.

allI purchased these several years ago on EBay and they are one of my favorite purchases.

atop

They sit atop my vintage 50s steel cabinet.

No, they aren’t dirty.  The cabinet, nor the canisters are in perfect shape but with many vintage items, the imperfections just add to the pinkness* character!

There’s one for flour ….

and one for sugar ….

coffee

one for coffee ….

and one for tea!

Notice, they all have the initial “C”.  That’s my initial!  That was one of the reasons I ordered these but since then I’ve noticed that they all have the initial “C”.  I think it was a happy, pinky coincidence!

Thanks for sharing Pink Saturday with me.

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound hosts Pink Saturday every week. This is a very fun event. Each of us post a picture of something pink on our blog on Saturday and try to visit as many of the other blogs as possible. Big thanks to Beverly for coordinating all the pinkaliciousness!

Happy Pink Saturday,

Christine

*Spell checker didn’t stop on the work pinkness.  I’m going to have to look that one up!

Sweet Apple Hello

Sweet Apple Hello

I received the new Wiff of Joy Summer Collection in the mail last week and was not able to color her until I got back from Utah.

Isn’t Willow beautiful! I only had a small piece of cling foam so I wasn’t able to mount all of the stamps. :- (

I used the sketch from Crafts 4 Eternity with the challenge to make a teen card. I think with the bright colors and the cute image, this card qualifies for a teen card.

I colored her with water color pencils and used DP from the DCWV Sweets stack. Both the image and the sentiment are Whiff of Joy.

Tomorrow I will be working on my DT cards for Flutterby Wednesday and Chirper Challenge so I probably won’t get time to post anything else.

My niece plays on a women’s tackle football team and I’m going to go see her play tomorrow evening.

blue turf They are playing on “The Blue” meaning the blue turf at the Boise State University field. The coaches and players for Boise State have been working with them so it will probably be a good game! She said that we can bring our lawn chairs and sit on the sidelines. It sounds like a great time!

See ya’ later, alligator!!!

Cuppa Sugar Bookmark

cuppa sugar book

I love these corner bookmarks.  I made four blank bookmarks while I was making this so now I have some to decorate in the future.  This is another one I used for the Modern Sugar Boulevard Create a Card Blog Candy giveaway.  One of the reasons I love digi stamps so much is because you can resize them to any size you would like, which makes them perfect for my bookmarks.

Of course, the image is from Modern Sugar Boulevard and I colored her with Prisma Colors and gamsol.  The corner embellishments are cut with the Cricut Storybook cartridge and the DP is from a box of 300 K & Co. papers.  Am I gonna have fun with that or what?

That’s about it.  I’ve got one more to post.  Talk to ya’ in a few minutes!

Blessings,

Christine

Retro Sugar Bath

retro sugar bath

I made another card for the Modern Sugar Boulevard Create a Card Blog Candy giveaway. I printed all these digi images yesterday and thought I might get them all made up in time for the giveaway. I used the sketch from 2 Sketches for You but ended up changing it a bit. I hope it still works.

I was going for a retro look with this one. I have a 50s kitchen and have always wanted a 50s bathroom too. When I see these old bathtub images it always reminds me of the fifties. I colored her with Prisma colors and gamsol and the DP is from a Me & My Big Ideas stack.

I guess that’s about all I have to say about that, huh? I’ll be back in a couple with another card. I made three today.

Blessings,

Christine

Pink Gardener

Pink GardenerHere is another card for the Modern Sugar Boulevard Create a Card Blog Candy contest. You can enter this contest as many times as you would like until May 29, for some great candy. I used the sketch from the Pink Elephant challenge. It also, by coincidence, fits the sketch from the Modern Sugar Boulevard weekly challenge. I chose the image based on the Rainbow Lady's challenge which is “G”, i.e., gardening.

Of course, the image is from Modern Sugar Boulevard and I colored her with Prismas and gamsol. I wish I would have printed her a little bigger – she was a little hard to color. The DP is from the DCWV Glitter stack.

Short and sweet again. I’m headed to bed.

Nighty night,

Christine

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

For the Modern Sugar Boulevard Create a Card Blog Candy contest, you can make any card you want as long as it contains one of the digi images.  They were having a sale on Mother’s Day so I bought several images.  You can enter as many cards as you would like, so expect to see a few more!  I {heart} their digi stamps!!!  They are so much fun to color!

I used the sketch from Sweet ‘N Sassy challenge blog.  The house is colored with Prisma Colors and gamsol and the sentiment is computer generated.  The DP is from the DCWV Pocket Full of Posies stack and the jewels are from my stash.

That’s it; short and sweet! It’s almost time to go to bed.

Blessings,

Christine

Three for the Madness and a Fourth for the Daisy

I got busy in the craft room today and made three cards for the Midnight Madness challenge. So without further ado, four cards for you. (I’m a poet and didn’t know it).

Cherry chocolate cone

Cherry Chocolate Cone. I have had a craving for several weeks now for sundaes with cherry ice cream and hot fudge. When I decided to color this image, I new it had to be cherry ice cream with chocolate chunks. Yum!

I used one of the free images from Digishac when they first came online. The sentiment is from them as well. I used Prisma colors and gamsol to color the image. The DP is from a Me & My Big Ideas paper stack.

I followed the challenge at Stamptacular Sunday which is “Chocolate” and at the Chrizma Cardz which is “Dotty”.

Flora Window Flora Window. This is my second card for Midnight Madness. The friend that I’m sending cards to particularly likes this image from Sketching Stamper, so I thought I’d make a couple more.

I used water color pencils to color the image. The DP is from the DCWV Pocket Full of Posies stack. I added the flowers and pearls and wa-la; that’s it!!!

The 2 Red Bananas challenge is “May Flowers” and the Creative Card Crew challenge is “Pretty Flowers”.

Daisy Gems Daisy Gems. One last card for the Midnight Madness challenge. When I looked at this image today, I thought of my niece because she loves daisies. I was pretty sure she would have daisies for her wedding (she has since called and said she is having daisies) so I thought I would color them in her wedding colors – blue, green and yellow. I haven’t seen samples of her colors yet though. I’m sure I don’t have the correct shades.

I used a free image from My Grafico and colored it with Prismas and gamsol. The DP is from the big box of K & Co. papers.

I’m also using the Cute Card Thursday challenge which is a “Bit o’ Bling”.

Blue Daisies

Blue Daisies. I once again made a card in my nieces wedding colors. I’m trying to get my brain thinking this way.

I think I’m the queen of free digi images. I used another free image from My Grafico and I used the sketch from Card Patterns. I colored the image with Prisma colors and gamsol. The DP is also from the box of K & Co.

I have a couple more cards that I’ll put in other posts.

Blessings,

Christine

Thursday Thunkers

rodin thinker Welcome to the May 28th version of Thursday Thunks!

This week we answer some crazy questions brought to you by THE THURSDAY THUNKERS!!!!!  We are picking up where we left off last week, which explains why we are starting with #21 instead of #1.

21. How many states have you been in?  Give me a minute.  I need to look at the map from two weeks ago.  24.  Was that cheating?

22. If a sexist Man is called a pig, what is a sexist Woman called?  A beautiful lady!!!  Don’t get me on my soap box.

23. You see the one person who you absolutely despise. If you were guaranteed that he/she couldn't say or do anything back to you.... What would you do??  Say “nice to see you” and walk away.  That would get him thinkin’!!!

24. How many states are to the right of you? And don’t give us a map to look at.  Okay, this was my question, I should have been prepared.  I had to turn off the TV so I could think.  I’m ‘guessing’ 8.  Let’s see how I did.  Perfect, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois (this is when I got lost), Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and some little tiny state (sorry to everyone from NJ).

25. You can go anywhere in the world for free. Where are you?  Sweden in the Alps.  I love the mountains.

26. HOW MANY FINGERS AM I HOLDING UP? 18.

27. Are you a boxing fan? Do you think there will be a rematch of the Hatton-Pacquiao fight?  I looove Olympic boxing but I’ve never gotten into professional.

28. What is the most disgusting thing you have ever eaten?  Beef tongue.  I used to like it-eehhhh!

29. Is it cloudy right now?  No, hot and sunny.

30. What is your dream job?  I would love to work for Nasa.  Not an astronaut, just anywhere.  I’ve always be enamored by the space program.

31. Someone gives you a $500 gift card to WalMart or Target. What are you going to buy?  A treadmill (but probably some crafty goodness).

32. When you were little, what did you want to be "when you grow up"? And, how much different is your occupation now from where you thought it would be when you were younger?  See question 30.  Not even close.

33. what was your favorite toy as a child?  My Thumbelina doll.  Not like the ones now.  She was a beautiful baby doll that felt like a real baby!!!  I loved her; still have her!!!

34. How do you think these things up??  I tell the truth, only the truth, ya, that’s right.

35. Why do you think so many "fake" veterans get away with pretending? Why don't people question them more (especially the media who eats up their stories?)  I don’t know any fake veterans and would severely chastise an imposter because the real veterans are our heroes!!!

36. What is the last place you had a good cry and why?  I don’t remember.  Life’s been pretty good lately!!!

37. What do you mean?  About what?

38. Which Sesame Street Character do you relate with the most and why?  I just took a quiz on facebook but I don’t remember who I was.  Let me go check.  Okay, I was big bird.  What is that about?

I think I’m the Cookie Monster.  I loooove cookies (spoken in Cookie Monsters voice).

39. What song one would you listen to over and over if you absolutely had to? Barracuda by Heart.  I used to listen to it on my way home from work on Friday night every week.

40. Did you ever make what you believed at the time to be a horrible mistake - that in hindsight turned out to lead you on the best path in your life?  I don’t think so.

41. If you could change one thing on your person, what would it be?  Lose weight and I’m working on it.

42. What’s your favorite show to watch on television nowadays?  Army Wives and the new season is coming on soon.

43. Do you believe there is life after death?  You betcha.  I’m channeling Sara Palin.

Nutty Celebration in a Nutshell

There’s a new challenge blog called Nutshells.  They are currently having a giveaway to launch there new stamp line.  One lucky winner will receive 4 brand new Nutshells stamps from the new Summer collection, before the official release, and a selection of Imaginisce flowers.

Hazel_with_Flower_copy Summer_Coco_copy Summer_Mac_copy Summer_Tash_copy

Aren’t they adorable.  I especially like the little girl carrying the daisy with the bee following her around.  I can just imagine the little girl with whirly thingy (that’s the technical term) colored in patriotic fashion.  Wouldn’t that be cute for a Fourth of July celebration.

Nutty Celebration in a NutshellI am trying out for the Nutshells design team with this card.  If you want to take a chance, go to the Nutshells blog and read all about it.

I loved this sketch.  I find it a challenge to do all of this layering.  Not only do you have to get everything placed and balanced, but you also have to find all these papers that go together. Oh, and how I love a challenge.

I pulled out the DCWV Pocket Full of Posies stack and selected 5, yes 5, papers from that stack.  I colored her with Prismas and gamsol.  I think the sentiment is a Hero Arts stamp (it’s a clear stamp and not marked) and I added a few jewels and flowers from my stash.

Thanks to the folks at Nutshells for considering my creation.  I look forward to working with their gorgeous and nutty stamps!  I had so much fun coloring this little girl!!!

Christine

Birthday Cupcake

Birthday Cupcake

I ordered these stamps from Stamps and Smiles and they came right before I was leaving for Utah.  I’m glad I got a chance to use her.  I used the sketch from The Fresh Batch.

Birthday Cupcake side

I also photoed it from the side so you could see the dimension.

Birthday Cupcake inside

I also decorated the inside.

The Dutch Dare challenge is to use bling (pink jewels on the top left) and the My Time to Craft challenge is to use pink.

The DP is from the DCWV Sweets stack.  This is my first try at using my Prisma colors with gamsol.  Not perfect but good considering it was my first try.  I’ll definitely be trying that technique again.

I might be back with one more.

Blessings,

Christine

Swinging to Get Well

Swingin' to Get Well I made this card for a friend that needed a card for a friend of hers to give to her father who had a motor cycle accident.  Did you get all that? (hehe)  The sentiment says “Hope you Get in the Swing of Things Soon.”

I used the sketch from Stamp Something.  The image and sentiment are from the Flourishes Swing Set.  I used a water color wash to paint the sky and grass.  I had to do this all in steps.  After that dried, I painted the branches and then after that dried I painted the tree.  Whoo!

Blessings,

Christine

1,000 Springs

100_2611

As promised, I’m showing a few of my photos taken during my trip to Utah.  I took the long way home yesterday because I wanted to take some pictures of the scenic Thousand Springs area in Southern Idaho.

100_2601 Thousands of years ago volcanic eruptions interrupted the flow of the Snake river causing it to form several under ground tributaries and reservoirs.  These waterways erupt out of the canyon walls (made of lava rock) at Thousand Springs. In the olden days (I said that to make me sound young), there were a lot of springs in this beautiful valley (I don’t know if anyone actually counted 1000).  100_2617

Yesterday, during my drive through the valley, I only saw two major springs.  However, I shot a couple of nice photos to show you.  Earlier in the spring I would have seen more springs.

100_2659 After snapping these beautiful photos, it was time for the pup and I to take a well needed rest.  I can’t help it, I love to take photos of my truck, even as dirty as she is.  Yes, my truck is a girl!!!  I feel bad though because I didn’t snap any picts of Chloe.  Bad fur mommy!

100_2621I don’t know of very many rest areas that have views like this!  But I have to be honest and tell you that this rest area is on a rural highway in my beautiful home state of Idaho.  Yes, I’m bragging.

100_2645

While walking the little path next to what I think is a tributary of the Snake river, I was smelling a sweet floral scent.  Looking for the source, I finally lifted my head and saw these beautiful trees in full bloom.  I don’t know what they are, except beautiful.

100_2661

Many of the rural areas of southern Idaho are not fit for farming.  As is the case in this area, there are too many rocks left over from the ancient volcanoes.  Now, we are harvesting the wind!!!  GO GREEN!

I hope you enjoyed my little tour through Thousand Springs!  Expect more as the summer progresses.  I love to take drives through the countryside and through the mountains.

I’m off to unpack my goodies, and start crafting.  I have a lot of fun stuff in this mind that needs to come out!!!

Blessings,

Christine

Flutterby Wednesday

It’s once again Wednesday!!! So what does that mean?  Can you say “Flutterby Wednesday”?

Here’s my card for this week. Flutterby Wedns 5-27

The challenge this week is to use brads or eyelets on your creation.

I love the artsy feel to this image.  This is the first time I’ve colored her; I’ll do better next time.  I got her lips a little exaggerated.  I’m just pretending that she had too many collagen injections!!!

Flutterby Wedns 5-27 close up

Just so you can get a closer look at her lips, I shot a zoom pic. (hehe)  No, I wanted to show the detail on the flutterbies.  I stamped the image twice and cut out the two butterflies (on the left corner and on her shoulder), glued them on (with a glue pen) and folded them for 3d effect.

The stamp is I Brake for Stamps “Femme Fleur.”  I colored her with watercolor paints.  The DP is from the DCWV Luxury stack.

You can check out all of the other DTs creations, by clicking on each DT name on the right side of my blog under Flutter By Wednesday Team.  They are all very talented ladies so why not give them some love while your there!

Blessings,

Christine
