If I Only Had a Brain

I did it! I made another card that reminds me of a song. And the weird thing about these last three cards is that they were all pre-colored images. Remember I said I was having such a hard time putting together cards but was loving to do the painting and coloring. I guess I know what to do when I can’t get the cards to go together. All I have to do is . . . “Sing, sing a song. Sing out loud. Sing out strong. Sing of good things not bad. Sing of happy not sad.” Enough already!!! Now, on to my scarecrow!

I could while away the hours
Conferring with the flowers
Consulting with the rain.
And my head I'd be a-scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

The scarecrow is a Friday Freebees digi stamp from Digital Delights. The DP is a Debbie Mumm Holiday stack I bought last year. The sentiment is cut from a piece of paper from the DM stack. Don’t you love those itty bitty buttons. Every time I see them in a new color combo, I buy more!!!

I used the sketch from Papertake Weekly and the Secret Crafter is flights of fancy.

Just a Swingin’

I guess I’m going with a music theme today but both of the cards I did today reminded me of songs.  I wonder how long I can keep making cards that remind me of songs!

This beautiful porch swing image is from Clear Dollar Stamps.  Doesn't it make you want to sit on this swing with a tall glass of lemonade and your sweetie.  It makes me wish I had a sweetie when I see beautiful images like this.  But that’s the only time (he-he).

I water colored the image and paper pieced the cushion on the swing.  The DP is K&Co.  I used the sketch from Inspirational Card Sketches and the Timeless Tuesday challenge at the Flourishes blog is to use pearls on your card.

I’ll see what musically themed card I can come up with next!!!

Tropical Cones

Tiny bubbles,
In the wine,
Make me happy,
Make me feel fine.

I went to Hawaii once. It was definitely the worse trip of my life. To make a long story short, my boyfriend broke up with me while we were there and I came down with pneumonia. Luckily, the symptoms didn’t show up until the last day of the trip.

But doesn’t this lovely Lani from Digi Shack make you want to go to Hawaii. I really would love to go again and make it a good trip so I can get that one out of my memory banks! I water colored Lani (of course-I’m stuck in a rut) and the DP is a We Are Memory Keepers Archivers freebie. Well, I sure spend a lot of money at Archivers to get the freebies (he-he). I guess I’d probably be spending that money anyway. When I got this freebie, they rang up my order and said that I only hand to spend $2.00 more to get the freebie. Yay!!!

I made the card for the SP Color Combo challenge using the Pink Elephant sketch. The Stamp with Fun Challenge is “at the sea”, and the Cardalicious challenge is green pink and orange. I hope they consider this to be within their challenge. Also, Digi Shack’s challenge is another color challenge which I hope this meets.

Bee’s Cupcake Challenge

This is my card for the Bee Crafty challenge this fortnight. (Don’t you think that fortnight is such a better work than biweekly?)  I used the Fairy Angel digi stamp from Bee Crafty’s store. 

We have an extra sponsor this week at Bee Crafty.  Cupcake Cards and Crafts gave each of the DT a sample of their digital paper to use in this weeks challenge.  I chose the “My Lazy Sunday Paper” set to use for my card for this challenge.   This is a lovely set  of blue, cream and gray papers.  I chose three different papers to use on my card.  I took the paper used on my background and shrunk it to use for paper piecing for the Fairy Angel’s dress. 

I haven’t used digital paper much but while making this card, I realize how versatile dig paper is.  I have Photoshop installed on my computer but haven’t taken much time to learn it.  One of my fellow DT members used PS to fill the dress on her image with a downsized piece of the same paper that she used on her card.  I’m hoping that they will be teaching a PS class in the community education classes this fall.  It’s so much easier to learn when you take a class.

Frenchy Pink Saturday

It’s been a long time since I participate in Pink Saturday.  It’s not that I don’t have enough pink around the house but that I just keep forgetting.  But I got to it this week!!!

I was originally going to post my Pink Thrifty Finds from when I was in Utah but didn’t get a chance to get photos taken.  So then I decided to post something I took photos of a couple of weeks ago, but now I can’t find those photos.  So this is what I decided to do.

Happy Birthday Mom

2nd Post of the Day!!!  Please scroll down to read my first post!

My mother doesn’t get on the Internet but I want to say Happy Birthday today anyway!

She is a great Mother and provided six children with a loving home.  We had everything we needed as children and some that we didn’t necessarily need, but wanted.  We were not spoiled with things but we were definately spoiled with love.  My grandma would sometimes say to my mom, “if you spoil that child anymore, she’ll start stinking!”

We had a lot of fun times too.  Picnics and camping in the mountains, parties with her friends and their children (now they call them play dates), going to church, there were so many it’s impossible to list them.

The one that sticks in my mind the most, and I don’t know why, when my brothers and dad went hunting one fall, she took my sister’s and I out for the evening.  I particularly remember going to Taco Time (a regional fast food taco place) and getting burritos and orange soda in a keepsake glass!  With six children, going out to dinner was a real treat.  And to go with just the gals was a special treat!

Like I said, she raised six children who have in turn raised nine grandchildren for her and they went on to have nine great-grandchildren so far!!!

I love you mom, Pat (she doesn’t answer to mom anymore) and Happy Birthday!

I’ll be working on getting her the internet tomorrow.  We’ll get it worked out one way or the other!!!  Then my sister and I are going to fix dinner for her.  Alice is fixing cheese fondue and the we will have meatloaf with green beans and baked potatoes.  Then chocolate fondue for dessert!  Yummy!

Now, I’ll be showing this to her tomorrow afternoon so I want lot’s of Happy Birthday wishes!!!  Everyone that wishes her a happy birthday will get an extra entry in to my birthday blog candy starting on Sept 7th!

Susan’s Flowers

This is another one of the lovely stamps that Elizabeth Bell did for Susana’s Custom Art and Card Design. Her name is Susan (I think she’s named after a member of the DT) and you can find her and the other lovelies here. I should have moved the ribbon out of the way so you could see the rest of the image.

Once again I water colored her. Love the pink and brown combo. The sentiment is from the Whiff of Joy Summer set by Elisabeth Bell. All the DP is K&Co. I used the sketch from Sketch Saturday.

I ordered a bunch of stamps the other day and they came in the mail today. The good news for you is that I also put one in the order to include in my blog candy. The good news for me is that I have some new stamps to play with! Although I still have several stamps that still haven’t seen any ink! Oh well, somehow I don’t think I’m alone. he-he

Thursday Thunks

 

Welcome to the August 27th version of Thursday Thunks! This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Kimber, the number of kids I have and the color of dead roses.

 

 

 

1. Have you ever played Bullshit? I don’t think so but I’ve slung a little in my lifetime.

2. A dog licks you on your face. Are you disgusted or thinking it was sweet?  Puppy kisses are the best!  My mom’s dog gave me a french kiss once.  Now that was gross!

 

3. Tell us about a fun/special memory you have of a grandparent.  My Grandpa was the greatest guy on earth.  He was a farmer in Southern Idaho and I have so many memories.  When I smell a mixture of wintergreen and cigarette smoke, it always makes me feel loved.

 

4. Have you ever pet a rat? Do my ex-husbands count?

 

 

5. If I walked into your kitchen, where are the cups?  My favorite cups are above the coffeemaker.

 

 

 

 

6. Since you already let me in your home, I found the cup and had water, now where's the bathroom from the kitchen?  Go back through the living room, past the front door on your left.

 

7. Have you ever pet a turtle or tortoise?  Yes, my niece has had one for over 25 years and sometimes I babysit!

The Master’s Butterfly

The challenge at Flutter By Wednesday this week was set by the sweet Kim. She would like everyone to use their favorite quote on their card this week, as well as a fairy or butterfly. If you would like to play along with the Flutter By Wednesday challenge, you can go check out all of the other lovely DT blogs by clicking on their links on the right sidebar and then going to Danni’s Dreams to link up your card. Here’s my take on the challenge.

The beautiful butterfly fairy is a digi stamp from Sketching Stamper. The way I painted her, she turned out looking like she has a huge bow tied around her shoulders. It just didn’t go as planed but I didn’t have time to start over. Also, the DP does match the cardstock, it just doesn’t look like it in the picture. I’m not too happy with it this time but we just can’t make winners every time. Not me anyway!

Here’s a side view so you can see the dimension in the butterflies and matting.

And lest you don’t think I followed the challenge, I put my quote on the inside. Since I love butterflies so much, I have a lot of favorite butterfly quotes but this one came to mind when I saw this image with the butterfly still partially in her cocoon.

It says “What the caterpillar calls the end, the master calls a butterfly.” by Richard Bach. It is computer generated.

The DP is from Provo Craft and the butterfly is a cut from the Cricut Calligraphy cartridge. The sketch is from Sunday Sketch and Stamp and the Stamptacular Sunday challenge is to use something 3-d on your card.

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday

Julia at Stamping Ground has come up with the great idea of showing everyone what's on your workdesk each week. Here’s what’s on my workdesk at 12:30 am on Wednesday, August 26.

I’m almost ashamed to post for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday because 1) it is such a mess (room and desk) and 2) you’ll be seeing some of the projects I have started but haven’t been able to complete.

This is the left side of my messy desk. As you can see, I’ve gotten my fluids in today with diet Dr. Pepper and my water bottle full of Crystal Light. My poor Cricut is buried in unfinished projects. There’s my colored porch swing stamp against the piece of pink DP, there’s a little circle sitting on the cricut that is the image to be put on my niece’s wedding card and another image that I just finished for a challenge. I might get that one finished before I go to bed but probably not since I still have to post for FBW.

You may have notice that I was watching $25,000 Pyramid on the Game Show Network. In the middle is the stuff I use for water coloring. My old banged up pallet that I used many years ago when I used to paint watercolors and my glass of water with brushes lying on the front of the desk. No, I haven’t accidently drunk out of the painting glass instead of my drinking glass. Yet!!!

Do you see the fold up bed back there? I usually have a screen in front of it but I’m leaving it out until I get things set in the closet you see to the right. At the top of the picture you can see the bottom half of another colored image that I haven’t put into a card yet. If you can believe it, there is even one more. Anyway, the right side has my chocolate stash (in the gold dish), my stash of unused die cuts from my Cricut and the lazy susan that holds all my pencils, brushes and small tools.

That’s it for tonight. Hopefully, I will have a little less explaining to do next week because my desk will be nice and tidy! Ya, right!!!

Reading My Book

I had four older brothers and sisters that were in school before I was. I wanted to read so bad that I would sit with them while they read and consequently learned to read.

My mother told me that when I was in grade school the teacher said that there is a problem with Christine’s reading. My mom was surprised to hear that but asked anyway. The teacher said that they had no books for me to read because I had read every book in the library! And I still love to read!!! We used to take weekly trips to the city library! We had so much fun at the old Carnegie library building; the children’s books were in the basement. When I moved back to Idaho several years ago I was sad to hear that this beautiful building now houses a law firm. I think they should have left it as a branch library!

This is one of the images I colored while I was in Utah. The beautiful stamp is a Story of Me from Clear Art Stamps. I colored her with my watercolor paints and mounted her on cardstock cut with nesties. The paper is from the MM English Garden stack. I distressed all the edges with tan chalk, added some ribbon from Martha Stewart and some various buttons.

I used the sketch from Sketch and Stash and my newest stash is the stamp. Stamp Something’s challenge is a birthday card. I didn’t have room for a sentiment on the front but I think this would be a perfect birthday card when giving someone a book.

I’m back to my crafty table now. I seem to be having a block when it comes to putting my cards together. I think I’ll take a look at some old cards and sketches and maybe things will start clicking again.

I also have a migraine today and I’ve found that water coloring images really helps. I’m gone now and will be painting a stamp that I hadn’t been able to find (I really need to organize my stamps) but love and hadn’t inked up yet!

Funky Fairy

I told you I would be back.  I was beginning to doubt it for awhile myself.  I really had a hard time with this card.

Aren’t these little gals adorable!   I really struggled with this card and then when I got it so I kind of liked it, the photo did not do it justice at all.

This is from a digi stamp set at Funky Fairies and I water colored her.  I used the Core’dinations cardstock and I embossed it on the Cuttlebug.  I then sanded the papers.  The pink on the swirls isn’t showing up much in the picture.  The swiss dots is made with the orange Core’dinations.  I also added a little orange marker on the dots.  I used jewels, flowers and ribbon from my stash.

That’s about it for tonight.  I’m not going to do any more crafting tonight because I had such a hard time with this one!

Christmas or Not?

I picked out this paper from the S.E.I. Dill Blossom matstack and began to paint this cute little Tilda holding a cupcake.

I think she turned out holding a Christmas Pudding, don’t you? I didn’t realize until she was all colored but I think I just made my first Christmas card. What do you think?

Sugary Image Box

I mentioned in my previous post that Modern Sugar Boulevard is having Digi Day this weekend at SNR. This is what I made for their challenge.

I made a box to put the images I have printed but not colored and made into a card. If you would like to play along, you have until tonight. They have two free images on their SNR page for you to use in your project and they are having a lot of other giveaways. You don’t have to participate in the challenge to win free images. Check it all out here.

Of course, I water colored the cute free image (their always cute when their free). The DP is Making Memories Paperie Rouge & Mocha. The buttons are from my big bottle of vintage (mostly) white buttons. I love digging through them to find just the right ones!!!

This box also fits the MSB weekly challenge of polka dots. I didn’t plan that, really! 2 Red Bananas is and inspirational challenge (photo above) and Pile it On’s challenge is to do things in three. I have 2 sets of three buttons on the box. Speaking of buttons, the ABC challenge is buttons!

I’m working on my FBW card for this Wednesday and a whole bunch of other stuff!!! I finally got in the crafty mood. I think my crafty muse decided to walk home from Utah and it took her a week to catch up with me!

Emma’s Kitty

My sister, Rose, called me because she was worried about me since I hadn't blogged in two days! I guess I should get my posts up a little more timely, heh?

This is Emma, one of the new stamps by Elizabeth Bell for SCACD. Isn’t she adorable carrying her kitty in a basket? I’m kind of stuck in a rut with the water colors but I love them. The DP is K&Co and the ribbon is Bo Bunny and I used my Martha Stewart border punch.

I have a couple of more cards I’ll be posting each day and I have four other images that I colored while I was in Utah. I just need to put the cards together.

The challenges at The Pink Elephant and Cute Card Thursday are summer. I thing this one fits the bill.

6. Name something in your bathroom that shouldn't be there. A laundry basket full of socks. I don’t like matching socks and I don’t like to wear socks. I like my toes to be free!!!

7. What was your Kindergarten teacher like? Okay, this question dates me. Kindergarten wasn’t mandatory when I was 5 so I didn’t go. However, I could read better than the kids that did go to kindergarten because I had four older brothers and sisters.

 

 

8. What kind of oil do you use when you cook? Cook? What’s that? There’s a bottle of olive oil on the counter but I don’t know what to do with it.

 

 

 

9. If someone takes an unflattering picture of you and posts it online, do you beg them to take it down or do you laugh at yourself with everyone else? If you can’t laugh at yourself … (no that isn’t me).
