Bee Crafty Autumn Flowers

The challenge this week at Bee Crafty is a sketch challenge.

Loved working with this sketch. I turned it on it’s side but left the embellies where they were. It worked better for the paper I chose.

The image is Bee Crafty’s Flower’s in a Vase. I’ve always used this image in pastels or traditional flower colors. When I was thinking about what I was going to make as I was trying to sleep last night (do you do that), I pictured this in fall colors. I think it turned out really nice.

I watercolored the flowers. You can’t see it very well in the picture but I put a goldish-brown wash over the whole paper before coloring the image to give it the autumn feel. The DP is Debbie Mumm and the flowers are Prima. Brads and ribbon are from my stash.

The Cupcake Craft challenge is “thanks a bunch” and Tuesday Taggers and Secret Craft challenges are autumn colors. Stamp Something is to use the color brown plus any other colors and Stamping for the Weekend is a color challenge.

Yummy Candy Corn

I was going to say “another fun Halloween card” but I think this is my first fun Halloween card.  This was a free image from Inktegrity.  One of my favorite things about Halloween is the candy corn.  I do eat it a little but I mostly like how it looks and I sprinkle it around here and there in my Fall decorating.  I think it’s the cutest candy!!!  I colored it with BIC markers and used Debbie Mumm DP.  I added some ribbon and buttons to match the dp.

I used the sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You.  They always have a great sketch but I’m not always able to play along.

Pink Survivor

I definitely had my mother and sister-in-law in mind while I was making this card. They are both breast cancer survivors and two of the strongest women I know. This image was a Friday Freebie from Digital Delights last week. Sorry for the picture quality.

I watercolored her in shades of pink and sat her down on a piece of pink organza ribbon using pop dots. I used the CB Swiss Dots folder to emboss the cardstock and added buttons I got at Wal-Mart.

I used the sketch from Midnight Madness. The Cuttlebug Spot challenge is Breast Cancer (pink) card and Flourishes challenge is to make a pink card for a woman. The Crafting Pot has a think pink challenge.

I’m hoping to have another card for you this evening. And tomorrow morning I’ll have my Bee Crafty card for you! I’m back in the mood for crafting so who knows what’ll come to these pages in the future!!!

Snowflakes and Swirls

The challenge at Pollycraft is to make a card with spots, stripes, swirls, sparkly and snowflakes.  You can pick two of them to include on your card  but if you use all five, they will send you a free image.  That was challenge enough for me.

They only thing that I thought would be a little tricky was the swirls but then I remembered about my swirls embossing folder.  The DP is a Provo Craft stack that I bought a couple of years ago and the snowflakes I got at Wal-Mart.  I watercolored the image and then added some snowy glitter to her buttons and boots and to the ground.

The sketch is from the Everybody Art challenge and Creative Inspirations is Christmas.

Thursday Thunks

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Thursday Thunkers, the number 301 and the color ketchup red.

1. Bud- What type of meme question is the hardest?  The ones that are really personal but then I just lie about those anyway!

2. Smart Cent's Mom- If you could be any person living or dead, who would you be? I would be me!!!

3. Thom- You accidentally bump into someone at a store and you apologize. The person you bumped into says no problem and you notice food stuck in their teeth. What do you do?  Just keep on walkin’.

 

4. Captured Memories- "Do you ever shed a tear when you poop?"  Can’t say I ever have.

 

 

5. Mejis- If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, it's still a tree, right?  Maybe it’s a bear.  Remember, I didn’t see it either!

 

6. Tosin- What is something you have said to someone that you wish you could take back?  There are a number of things but “I do” twice was definitely the ones I wanted to take back the worst!

7. Annie's home- not feeling very creative here so I will ask if you were in the Big Brother house how would you play the game?  Who’s house and what game?

8. Meandering Matt- Mac (which is still a PC (personal computer) in my opinion) or PC (Microsoft)?  Microsoft!

 

 

9. Living Dead Nurse- Do you think Jay Leno’s show should be cancelled? It’s better than anything else that’s been on NBC.  It is kind of boring though.

 

 

10. Dixie Chick- I LOVE VICTORIA SECRET PANTIES AND THEY ARE THE ONLY KIND I WEAR. JUST BOUGHT 5 NEW PAIR THE OTHER DAY. 2 BLACK, 2 RED AND 1 PURPLE. THEY ARE ALL FRESHLY WASHED AND READY TO WEAR. MY QUESTION IS.....WHAT SIZE BRA DO I WEAR...?  Heck, I don’t even know what size I wear!

11. And finally one by Kimber (just so you don't think I am too lazy)- There is a rattlesnake living behind the warehouse my husband's company just moved into, tarantulas in our side yard, scorpions all around at night and coyotes howling and running down the street in front of our house. So what color sheets will you want on your bed when you come to visit me?  Pink, I love pink!!!  But ya’ better call the Orkin Man first!

Aunt Clara Fairy

It’s Wednesday so that means it’s Flutter By Wednesday! The challenge is an open one this week. That’s easy but you still have to use a butterfly or fairy on your project.

Don’t you like this cute image from the Digi Shack. I have a friend that belongs to the red hat club and I had to paint her purple and red. You can’t see very well in the photo, but her hair is even purple!!! She kind of reminds me of Aunt Clara from Bewitched.

I used Core’inations white wash cardstock and them embossed and sanded the papers. I water colored Clara and she is matted with the reverse side of the cardstock. I added lavender ribbon and jewels.

Anika’s Birthday

I made this card for my great niece’s birthday.  The image is from Pollycraft and the DP is a RAK.  I used a Fiscars punch and added some lavender rhinestones and ribbon.

The sketch is from Sweet ‘n Sassy, Whimsy Stamps challenge is to use a boy or girl theme, Dare U 2 Digi is to use punches, and Secret Crafter is celebration.

Pirate Dinosaur

This is my second post for the day.  Please scroll down to see my friend, Coralie’s, Blogoversary giveaway.

I made this card for a little 4 yo boy in my sister’s Sunday School class.  She always asks the kids what is their favorite color and their favorite toy so I have something to go on.  This little boy said he loved his light saber and his favorite color is red.  But, whenever they do coloring projects, he always wants the orange crayon so I decided to add some orange as well.  I don’t know how to make a light saber but I thought a sword would do!

Both images, the pirate dinosaur and the background, are from Dustin Pike and the sentiment is from Stamps and Smiles and I water colored them.  The DP is from K&Co. and I added some tiny buttons.  It’s a fun card, I think!!!

Can you believe I couldn’t work in a challenge.  I know, I can’t believe it either.  That’s it for tonight (or I guess morning).  It’s time to go to bed!

1. What color is your mouthwash?Green; I don’t like minty blue!  Yuck!!!

 

 

2. Do you remember your first phone number? Have you called it recently?  Yes, I do remember.  The last four digits were the same as were the same as my address.

3. BPD in OKC's question- Do you have a super-secret hiding place and what's in it?  No.  I’ve been going to hide a key in a super secret place but haven’t gotten around to it.

 

4. When was the last time you used a pay phone? How much did it cost to make the call?  Probably six years ago and it cost a quarter.

 

 

5. What was that noise?  An airplane or was it a bird.  No, it’s Superman!!!  Don’t ask me why that came to mind.

 

 

6. Stef H's question- how long is a woodpecker's pecker?  I don’t want to know.  My mother now reads my blog so I have to keep it clean!!!

I Love Fall

While in Utah last week, my sister and I took a drive on the “Alpine Loop” above the Provo, Utah area.  Anytime of year (except winter when it’s closed) it is a beautiful drive.  In the fall, the scenery and colors are beyond amazing!!!  At times, it has even brought tears to my eyes to such beauty.

 

 

Alice hates most pictures of herself but I think this one turned out well.  Although it would be to ruin a picture with the beautiful colors and mountins in it.

 

 

In most areas, we were to early for the leaves to have started changing.  But we found a few place to take photos. 

 

 

There were some beautiful pockets of color here and there!

 

 

 

 

We stopped for several photos in an area where, several years ago, there was a forest fire.

The oak brush comes to life before most of the other trees after a fire.  This area has mostly oak brus with some aspen and a few pines.  The aspen and pines are still quite small.

 

I always hate to see burn areas but you have to remember that it’s usually and act of nature and fires keep the forest healthy.  However, this are is close to the road so it was probably caused by faulty brakes or a cigarette being thrown out of a car window.

 

 

The contrast between the burnt trees and fall colors is striking!

 

 

I just wanted to share a little of the beauty of Utah with you.

Magical Fairies

This is my second post for today.

I guess that statement is a little redundant because all fairies are magical, aren’t they? And Flutter By Wednesday is always magical!!!

The stamp is from Clear Art Stamps. I stamped them with Versa Mark ink and embossed them. I then cut it out and matted it with Nesties and tied some ribbon around it. A very simple card!!!

Danni is still celebrating her birthday month and she is giving candy again this week. We have a guest designer again this week so go check things out! The challenge this week is to use Danni's (and my) birthstone, sapphire in your creation. It can be a stone or the color.

Fluffy Bunny’s Christmas

I didn’t get a chance to make my card for the Bee Crafty challenge that was posted on Saturday and really wanted to work with one of the cute, new images for Christmas.

Isn’t Fluffy Bunny cute all wrapped up for Christmas?  I think he got all tangled up in the Christmas tree.  I used watercolor pencils to color Fluffy and cut and matted him with Spellbinders.  DP is K & Co. and I used the Martha Stewart punch.  I used a gel pen to doodle stitching and dots all over the place and added a crocheted flower from Fancy Pants tied up with a vintage button.  I love this DP; I may need to go out and get another pack.

The challenge at Stamp Something is to use your favorite sketch.  I don’t remember where I found this sketch but it’s my go to sketch!!!  The Dare U 2 Digi challenge is to use die cuts or punches, Die Cut Dreams is ribbon, Polka Doodles is digi coloring and Spoonful of Sugar is Christmas.

I’m Home!!!

After being away for eight days, it’s wonderful to be home!  This is going to be a quick post to let you know a few things about my trip and to tell you that you have only 12 more hours for a chance at winning my birthday candy.  If you haven’t entered yet, click here and leave a comment!

All in all, I had a great trip!  I spent Monday at the University of Utah hospital for my annual post heart transplant round of tests.  I was to go to the hospital again on Tuesday for the remainder of the testing but woke up with a real icky stomach virus!  Since I am on immunosuppressant medications, virus hit VERY hard.  I spent the day between bed and the bathroom.  We have rescheduled the remainder of the testing and I will be going back to Utah in a couple of weeks.

I woke up on Wednesday feeling quite a lot better.  My sister and my friend had made plans to take me to Wendover for my birthday.  Wendover is a town just over the Utah/Nevada border.  We gambled a little and ate a lot.  It was a wonderful surprise and a great birthday!  Thanks Alice and Sharon!!!

I got quite a bit of thrift store shopping in during this trip.  Well, not really that much shopping but it was my week to find things that really needed to come home with me.  I found some amazing thrifty finds that I will share with you on Monday.  I’m sooooo excited about one of them that I want to tell you right now but I’m waiting to take a picture!

Quick Post

I was planning on getting a few cards done, especially my DT cards but no go this week. I just haven't been feeling that great. I'm getting laundry and packing done and some details taken care of before I leave tonight. I'll have my 2nd annual 2 day round of testing and doctors appointments at the Univ of Utah on Monday and Tuesday. The rest of the week is for fun, fun, fun!!!

I probably won't be on my computer until Friday night. I'll miss everybody soooo much. But, on Sunday the 27th, I'll get everything together and draw the name for my birthday giveaway! If you haven't enered, DO IT NOW!!!

Thursday Thunks

2.Have you ever been bitten by a member of the canine family? No – I’m on a roll with the nos.

 

 

3. What is your favorite color of jeans? No – Oh I mean blue!

4. What is something that has changed in public schools that you wish was the norm when you were in school?  I don’t have kids so I don’t really know what goes on in school.  One thing I know that’s different is they didn’t require kindergarten when I was a child!

5. What is your news source?  NBC

6. What sort of people do you think read your blog?  My crafty friends ;o)

 

7. If I told you that I had a headache, you would say..........???  I’m sorry I hope you feel better soon :o(

 

 

8. You go to a buffet style restaurant, what is the first food you put on your plate? Lettuce – gotta start with salad.

 

 

 

9. If you were stranded on a desert island.... no, we aren't asking that again. Lets put a twist into this. Would you volunteer to be dropped off on a desert island, to be picked up in a month? And you don't get to bring those 3 items, either.  No – back on that roll!

Snowy Cupcakes

I realize that I’m on a cupcake kick today but there is a reason.  I really wanted to do the challenge last week at Stamps and Smiles but didn’t have time.  As I was adding my link for this weeks challenge, I saw that I could still play along with last weeks challenge.  Since I had this idea in my mind since first seeing the sketch, I knew the card I’d make.  They are also looking for a guest DT so that’s two chances for them to see my cards!

The photo does not do this card justice.  The stamps and sketch are Stamps and Smiles and I water colored them.  I “sugared” the marshmallow fluff tree and the cupcake house icing.  I cut out the snowflakes using the Cricut Joys of the Season cartridge and “sugared” them as well.  I added a big rhinestone to the top of the house and smaller ones along the top and bottom.  I stamped the sentiment with versa mark and embossed it.

I have to make some DT cards that are due while I’m gone. One’s almost done.  I hope to get at least one more project done before I leave for Utah.  I’ll be offline for most of the week!  I just don’t know what I’ll do!!!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow . . .

. . . you’ll find cupcakes! I know it doesn’t go with the tune but I couldn’t help it!!!

If their really were cupcakes over the rainbow I’d definitely be chasing some rainbows!!!

All of the stamps are from Stamps and Smiles, as well as the sketch and I water colored them. This was really a fun card to make and I think it’s fun to look at too!!!

All the cardstock is Bazzil – you gotta love the Bazzil Monochromatic packs. They make it so easy to choose the right shades! I layered and embossed the lightest shade with the Cuttlebug Swiss dots folder and added the medium shade, embossed with the swirls folder, to the bottom. I tied a ribbon around it and added some jewels!

The Paper Play challenge is to to use no DP.

Flutter By Paisley

It’s another Wednesday so that means it’s Flutter By Wednesday! The challenge at Flutter By Wednesday this week is to add some sparkle to your card. I think that’s pretty simple for just about anybody. Well, and lest I forget, you must also have a butterfly or fairy!

It’s a real special week this week at Flutter By Wednesday. As I have said on previous Wednesdays this month, Danni is celebrating her birthday and she has invited a guest star to join us each week! This week she has asked her kids, Annabelle and Matthew, do be our guest designers this week. I haven’t seen their creations yet but I’m sure they’ll be awesome!!! If that isn’t enough for you, she has candy again this week!

I kept things simple this week. I started with the dark green cardstock and added a piece of Cloud 9 Design DP. I added a ribbon and bow, a MS punched butterfly, some pins, jewels and a sentiment. Quick, but I think kind of elegant card!

Hemmingway’s Chirper

We are back after a short break with the Chirper challenge.

The photo didn’t turn out very well but you get the idea. Last fall I took a drive through the mountains to Sun Valley. Just out of Sun Valley is a monument to Ernest Hemmingway. The spot is beautiful and I love just sitting there deep in thought and listening to the stream. While I was there, a nice couple came buy and I offered to take their picture next to the monument and then they took mine. I don’t very often get into my own pictures!!!

The monument reads:

Best of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
Leaves floating on the trout streams
And above the hills the high blue windless sky
….Now he will be a part of them forever.

I used miscellaneous cardstock from my stash. The tree and leaves are cut from the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge. I tore and inked the paper for the ground. Inked the tree to make it look it a little wood grained and chalked the leaves. The title is cut from the Lyrical Letters cartridge and I doodled on them for an effect.

Wonderful Weekend

What a wonderful weekend!!!  My mom, my sister, Alice and I went to Idaho Falls in Eastern Idaho to visit my brother, Russ.  We don’t get to see him very often so it was a real treat.

Russ has two grand-children who also live in Idaho Falls, Chase and Emma.  They are so much fun.  They were headed to a friends house to go swimming Saturday afternoon but stopped long enough to give us a hug and take a picture.

It’s not that we are all very short; Russ is very tall.  Five foot six!!!  Also, he isn’t carrying a man purse.  He had back surgery almost a year ago and has been fighting a staff infection ever since.  They figure it is a reaction to the titanium they put in his back.  After several surgeries, they have now removed all the titanium and it looks like the infection is over.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed.  The bag he carries is a vacuum pump to seal the incision and keep it clean and dry.

We visited for a while, went out to lunch and then played on the WII for awhile.  We bowled and played golf.  I have always said that I’m not getting a WII but, ya know, Christmas is right around the corner.  Maybe Santa will get one for me!

I really hate this photo of me; I look fat and unhappy.  I really was happy to see my brother.  He is one of the funniest people I know.  I think I was just sad to have to leave.

We then went to visit my aunt and uncle in southern Idaho.  They are still living on and running the family farm.  My uncle Dee had fallen and hurt his back so we decided to stop by for a visit.  Ruth made a delicious spaghetti dinner and the scrumptious brownies we had for desert were still warm.

It was a very short weekend.  We left home at 6:00 pm Friday and arrived at our hotel in Idaho Falls at 10:00 pm.  Got up the next morning and had breakfast and stopped at a thrift store.  Since the only Robert’s Craft store outside of Utah is in Idaho Falls, I had to stop.  I got some new Nesties and the new Kitchen cartridge for my Cricut.

We went to Russ’ and spent about 5 hours with him.  Then on to Uncle Dee’s and home about 11:00 pm.  A very quick trip (more driving than visiting) but we all had such a good time.  I’m going to make it a point to head over to Eastern Idaho more often.  Alice and I might go in October and take enough time to also see Yellowstone park.  That would be a lot of fun!
